we've been bashing our brains out working on these songs for the FREE tribute set we are doing in london. Free were a badass band and are the platform and blueprint for the stone axe sound. this has been a challenge for us and there is a lot of work to be done. we will probably do a FREE gig here in the states as a warm up for the UK set.

in stone axe II re-issue news: i am done with the sequencing and mastering of disc 2. it is about 64 minutes and includes everything that has been only on vinyl up to this point. including the three songs that are being released on the split 12" with wight coming out soon. there are 15 tracks total and once again there will be liner notes by JJ Koczan from the obelisk.

     we are now starting to book shows for our UK/Europe tour in 2012. the tour will run from march 30th thru april 14th. half of the shows will be in the UK and half will be in europe. we are scheduled for 2 set of music at desertfest in camden london. we will be performing a set of all FREE songs in the afternoon and then doing a proper stone axe set in the evening. more details on the tour to come.

I've been very busy here at HeavyHead recording. Along with finishing up the Stone Axe songs for the split with Wight, I have been compiling disc 2 of the SAII deluxe edition 2 cd set. Disc one will have the original album and 4 bonus tracks including 3 songs from the Beat Club sessions and the video version of Chasing Dragons which has mike on bass and is actually the only studio recording to feature the entire live band on the same song. Disc 2 will be all of the music we have released on vinyl only, including the songs from the 12" split with Wight. Also included will be a few studio outtakes. This will be released on Ripple Music sometime around Feb./March 2012 just in time for our UK/European tour in April.

    In other STONE AXE related news the first MOS GENERATOR record recorded in 2001 is slated for a deluxe release in November. I got the test pressing of the LP and it sounds killer! Sometime in the fall we will be releasing a split 12" with WIGHT from germany. The Lp will be released on Fat & Holy Records. When i listened to WIGHT it was obvious that the track that i heard was a freeform jam, which i have always been into doing. On Tuesday July 19th Mykey, Mike & I set up in the studio and recorded three live jams. Next i will get the songs to Dru so he can start writing for them. The songs are very uncharacteristic of Stone Axe. All three of the 8 plus minute songs are based on single riff jams and have an interesting array of influences. From soundtrack era Pink Floyd to hendrix to Iron Butterfly. It will be cool to see what Dru does to them. I have a feeling they will be primarily instrumental because of their structure. we'll see though.

With a lot of travelling behind us this year we are now going to take the time to continue writing the next album. We do have some local gigs this summer to keep up the chops and try out some of the new songs live. We have never played an unreleased song live so this will be fun for us.

I recently got the multitrack files for our set at the roadburn fest in holland last april and i was surprised to hear that all 19 songs were performed well. The plan is a double live LP of the show to be released sometime this year. Another release this year will be the deluxe 2 cd set of stone axe II.

Outlines are being made for our next video Lady Switchblade. It's a very classic Skynyrd sounding song and maybe the most "classic rock" sounding song we've ever done. The video will be conceptual this time, with not many band shots. looking forward to that and some other live footage we are putting together.

Hey all, I'm finally getting back to the webpage after our tour of the UK and Europe and i can't explain how well it went for us. Each night was an amazing surprise. Right now we are in the early stages of compiling a tour documentary that will be featured as bonus material on a live dvd we will be filming next weekend in Fort Worth Texas. The dvd will also have a few new videos and highlights from the Roadburn festival in Holland.

   Up next is Fort Worth Tx(may 28th) & Las Vegas(june 4th)for the DOOM IN JUNE festival. Then we are staying local for the rest of the summer to edit videos and write a new record. There are already a few songs in the can.

The STONE AXE II deluxe 2 cd set will be out on Ripple Music in the fall. Disc one will have the original album with 8 live live tracks from the Roadburn festival and disc 2 we have everything that came out on vinyl only and maybe a few covers and a few other goodies.

We would like to thank STUBB & TRIPPY WICKED for setting up the tour for us and letting us pound on thier gear for 10 days. These times we will never forget. Jack-Chris-Pete-Dickie...thank you.

The UK/Europe tour is closing in. We've added some new songs to our set list and will be playing a few songs we've never played live. We will be bringing some new merch items as well. Including new shirts with the tour dates on the back, the Heavy Ripple double 7" compilation and a special very limited edition tour version of the extended play 10" vinyl. All of that and much more will be available at the table.

Classic rock preservationists Stone Axe have officially announced that they’re hitting the road through the UK, parts of Europe, and wrapping up the tour with a night at the illustrious Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland! Starting on April 8th in Oxford, England and running through April 16th, this will mark the third time that the band has ventured to foreign soil with the aim of converting new ears to their sonic-brand of classic rock, but this time they’ll be doing it in support of their first CD/DVD package.

Scheduled for release on April 5th and in time for the tour, Stone Axe has put together a Deluxe Edition of their self-titled debut album. The CD portion of the package features eight bonus live tracks, while the DVD portion features more than 70 minutes of videos, interviews, and live footage! Hey, Hey, Hey. it's been a while. i've been holed up editing videos and mixing audio for the STONE AXE I deluxe reissue cd/dvd that will be released on Ripple Music in April. the cd has the original SAI album plus 8 live bonus tracks. disc 2 is a 74 minutes dvd with promo videos, live footage and radio performances. we got the finished product back and it looks/sounds great.

As some of you may know Stone Axe has been added to the roster for the 2011 Roadburn festival in Holland. This is a great honor for us and a good excuse for us to also take our show over to the UK in April. I will keep you posted on dates and venues.
This new years eve is going to be a special one. Stone Axe is hosting a show featuring all of the Stone Axe "family" bands. The Swinos(Dru),Sower of Dischord(mykey & Mike),Mos Generator(Tony)and of course Stone Axe. The show will be at Winterland in Bremerton.
The SA I cd re-issue is coming along nicely. I've been working on the liner notes with JJ Koczan(the obelisk) who is going to write a full history of the band. The included dvd is coming along well too. We just finished work on the video for "Chasing Dragons". Filmed and edited by Chris & Brian Mathews. We will also be doing some additional tracking and re-mixing of the song exclusively for the video. The SA I expanded edition is scheduled for release of Ripple Music in early April 2011. We have decided to take a break from playing live(for the rest of the year at least). The studio is where we will spend tour time this fall, working on material for the third Stone Axe full length release. Also in the works is a Cd reissue of Stone Axe I. It will be released on Ripple Music and feature tons of bonus tracks and a DVD as well. Then off to Europe in 2011. Our last shows of the year will be close to home.

You may have noticed that we aren't playing many shows for the rest of the summer. We are working on a country rock EP tentatively called "Hot Spring Water". At This point we have done demos for 7 songs and there are a few more being arranged. We have a deadline for these songs to be done and after that we will be back to playing some live shows.

Stone Axe Signs With Ripple Music For Future Releases.

Stone Axe To Re-Issue Debut Album With Vinyl And Deluxe CD Editions.
Fresh off the success of their first collaboration, a 7" split single between Stone Axe and Mighty High, multi-instrumentalist and rock preservationist T. Dallas Reed has signed with Ripple Music to re-release the critically praised Stone Axe self-titled debut on both vinyl and deluxe CD packages. Originally released in 2009, Stone Axe lit the message boards on fire with it's ballsy, retro, bluesy sound, bringing back the classic sound of rock that so many were craving. Now set to be gloriously re-unleashed, the vinyl edition of the album includes an extended jam of one of the original tunes and a full lyric sheet. The LP version will hit the streets on September 7th.

The CD edition of the album, which will see the light of day later in the year, will be a deluxe package with almost 30 minutes of bonus live tracks and a DVD of original promotional videos, live performances, and bonus footage from the recording of the album. When we get back from the tour we are locking ourselves in the studio to work on some new material. All i can say is that i have been listening to too much Neil Young and Leon Russell. That mixed with all of my K-Tel Records i have put on cd for our road trips is going to make for some interesting new tunes.

We have taken a few weeks off to film some promo videos for Stone Axe II. Monday night we filmed 4 songs live at a the Charleston Theater in Bremerton. They are live with no audience. We call then the "beat club" sessions. Songs include: On With The Show, Old Soul, Just A Little Bit, & When I Came Down.
Next week we are filming a video for "Chasing Dragons". Our friends Chris & Brian Matthews are directing the video and have some great ideas. These videos and much more will be part of a full length DVD we hope to put out later this summer.
Stone Axe II is in the final stages of being pressed and packaged. we'll let you know when we get 'em and what the rundown is on the deluxe editions.

In addition to the STONE AXE II LP, this spring/summer we will also be releasing a split 7" with our friends from brooklyn "Mighty High". Our song "Metal Damage", mirrors 1978-1980 Judas Priest and the Mighty High track "Don't Panic It's Organic" has a high energy rock feel that reminds me of Rose Tattoo(minus slide). The split will be released of the Ripple Music label out of San Francisco.
Later this summer STONE AXE II will get a european treatment. It will be released on Alone records via Roadburn. The Alone version will have a gatefold cover and a different track order(300 copies)

The artwork & audio masters for the LP have been sent to the plant for production. When all is done there will be a few versions available. Some of the variations are black vinyl, clear vinyl, printed inner sleeve(w/lyrics), 18x24 poster, one sided 7"(with non-lp song). i haven't decided the numbers yet but it will start with standard black vinyl version & go up to the 'die hard' version that will include everything listed above and a test pressing.
